Balance .... the hidden strength of the canvas.
New painters as with newly formed relationships often focus on the object of study, most times unrealized. So in the beginning when you are intent on blending the colors and drawing the object, or intent on pleasing the other person, these actions easily put both subjects on a pedestal. building expectations an super sizing the object in question creating illusions of grandeur and lending a claustrophobic or oppressing feel.
Painting need balance to best show off the subject being represented; whereas in a relationship, balance is needed so both parties gain equal attentions and focus.
If one size receives all the attention and glory, the one giving (or the painter) loses the message of the piece and the piece takes on an entire different identity. Leaving the painter and the giver in the relationship unresolved feelings of regret, of not achieving the message or relationship that they were reaching for.
Finding a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions creates the ideal balance for both the painting and the relationship.
Like with everything in this life, there must be give and take.
Hoping you find the balance in your masterpiece of life.
